Surge in Gift Card Fraud Cases

The FBI has warned about a rise in gift card fraud. They noted that the secondary market, where people exchange unwanted gift cards for cash or buy them at a discount, has seen a spike in scams. Many of these scams happen on auction websites and affect both buyers and sellers. In one common scam, a victim pays for gift cards that don’t exist. In another scam, dishonest buyers cancel their payment after obtaining the PIN that activates the gift card, leaving the seller without any money.
