Alexis DeJoria Shares Insight on Beginning Your Fitness Journey

We’ve had the pleasure of featuring Alexis DeJoria on our site before. She’s not only a top racecar driver but also one of the fittest athletes out there! She recently took some time out of her busy schedule to share her exercise and nutrition tips with us. These insights come from someone who’s always on the go. Let’s dive into this quick chat with Alexis DeJoria!

Alexis’s love for motorsports began when she was 16 and attended a drag race, instantly falling for nitro Funny Cars. After working for the family business post-high school, the urge to drive remained strong. Determined, Alexis attended driving school, worked her way up, and now races professionally.

Staying in shape is vital for a demanding sport like drag racing, where both physical and mental strength are crucial. Alexis believes that being physically fit also boosts mental health.

When Alexis turned pro four years ago, she intensified her fitness routine. Racing most weekends of the year means she’s on the road a lot. However, she works out daily when at home and has adapted her fitness routine to stay fit even when traveling, using hotel gyms or her motorcoach.

Doing everything she’d like on the road isn’t always possible, but racing itself helps maintain her fitness. The consistency of her routine means there’s no excuse to skip workouts; improvised exercises replace any missing equipment.

Alexis follows a healthy eating plan, avoiding bad carbs and fatty foods, favoring fresh-pressed veggie juices. Occasionally, she’ll indulge in pasta or similar treats but mostly sticks to her regimen.

A new initiative for this year is expanding the ‘Free Mammograms for the Fans’ program during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. Partnering with Nevada Health Centers, the program has offered free mammograms to female ticketholders over 40 at races. This year, they are adding the NHRA Texas Fall Nationals in Dallas to their schedule.

Alexis emphasizes the importance of nutrition and discipline. What you eat directly affects how you feel. Consuming heavy, fatty foods leads to lethargy, so it’s essential to eat right and exercise regularly.

Her favorite drink is the Perfect Patrón Margarita, which she learned to make during a guest bartending gig. It includes Roca Patrón Añejo, lime juice, simple syrup, and is served on ice with a salt rim and lime garnish—refreshingly perfect!

Thanks, Alexis, for sharing your insights and best of luck for the rest of the season!
