Evaluating the Value of Monthly Baby Subscription Boxes: Are They Worth It?
Monthly subscription boxes are becoming increasingly popular, and you can see this trend growing as more entrepreneurs showcase their versions on platforms like Shark Tank. In today’s fast-paced and tech-driven world, the excitement of getting a surprise package in the mail is quite appealing, especially for new moms who are home with their babies.
As a mom, I was given three Bluum baby subscription boxes with my first child and recently tried out the 16 Minute Club boxes for my second child. Let me share my thoughts on what I liked and disliked about each service and whether they are worth the cost.
### Bluum Boxes
Three years ago, I came across Bluum boxes, and the company has definitely expanded since then, now covering everything from pregnancy to preschool years. Initially, I wasn’t too impressed because the box mostly contained a lot of samples but not much else. However, based on their current offerings, it seems they’ve upgraded to include better quality products.
Would I spend $29 a month on this as a gift or like to receive it myself? Yes, as a gift. For myself? Probably not. My main issue is that the boxes focus heavily on books. While I love reading to my kids, I find the books they send too simple for preschoolers and not worth paying full price for. Since there are so many affordable picture books available for babies and toddlers, this subscription doesn’t feel very cost-effective to me.
### 16 Minute Club
The 16 Minute Club boxes provide support for breastfeeding, which is something I think all new moms can benefit from. My first two boxes arrived just when I needed them—one for pregnancy needs and the other for post-natal care.
Having previously only tried Bluum, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of content in each 16 Minute Club box. They included a balanced mix of helpful advice, various items, and fun products. I was excited to find not only samples but also full-sized items, along with a baby onesie, bib, toy, and more.
As a second-time mom, receiving these boxes was enjoyable because of all the baby and mom goodies. I imagine first-time moms would find them even more useful due to the resources and reading materials included. I remember spending endless hours online searching for answers as a new mom, and this box could have saved me from a lot of that stress and uncertainty.
Priced at $31 per box, they’re a bit more expensive than Bluum, but given what you get, I think they offer better value for the money.
### Final Thoughts
In the world of subscription services, some months might be better than others. However, I believe they are thoughtful gifts, particularly for new moms, who doesn’t love a surprise package arriving in their mailbox?
