Shopping Takes Center Stage for Americans Over Social Gatherings

The average American spends about 42 minutes a day shopping, while dedicating only 35 minutes to socializing. This information comes from the “American Time Use Survey” by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, which looks at how people over 15 years old spend their time throughout the year.

Interestingly, socializing tends to become more prominent on weekends and holidays. Although shopping time increases to 50 minutes on these days, people also socialize for about 62 minutes.

When it comes to physical activities and volunteering, much less time is spent. On average, Americans spend just 18 minutes a day on sports and other recreational activities, while volunteering gets even less attention, with only 9 minutes set aside daily.
