It’s known to affect around 86% of women after puberty, and while men can also develop it if they have higher female hormones, their different connective tissue structure makes it less common.

Some temporary solutions like massage can help reduce the appearance of cellulite by removing excess fluid, but the results are short-lived. Other treatments like thermotherapy and topical or herbal treatments may not be as effective as hoped. In the end, reducing cellulite is largely about the choices we make daily, like eating healthy and exercising regularly. This begs the question: why does it still show up?

Factors like smoking and drinking can significantly contribute to cellulite. Smoking weakens blood vessels and connective tissues, while alcohol affects how your body stores fat, especially when consumed with sugary foods. Even contraceptives can play a role by increasing estrogen levels, which encourages fat cell development.

Having experienced this firsthand, quitting smoking and drinking led to significant improvements in my skin. With proper treatment and lifestyle changes, even hormonal issues were manageable. So, what can you do if you’re in the same boat? Try creating a calorie deficit by cutting out junk food and exercising at least three times a week with activities like strength training or cycling.
