How to Score a Fantastic Bargain on Your Next Refrigerator
We eventually realized we needed a new refrigerator, so now we’re on the lookout for the best deal available. Our current fridge was bought second-hand for just $50 about two and a half years ago. Back then, we had to downsize from a one-bedroom apartment to a cozy backyard guesthouse because we had just gotten married and were short on money. Most of our savings went toward the deposit, so the $50 fridge was all we could afford at the time.
The fridge has served us well, from its space-saving bottom freezer to its perfect size. However, about two weeks ago, it started making strange noises, and now our freezer isn’t freezing as it should, leaving some food partially defrosted.
In a hurry, I took as much food as I could over to my parents’ house. I kept the rest in the fridge with a big bag of ice, hoping it would last until we find a new one.
While searching for a new fridge, I picked up some useful tips that I think could help us score a great deal:
– Do some online research to check out different fridges you might not see in stores.
– Use price comparison tools online, or apps like RedLaser and ShopSavvy to scan barcodes and find cheaper options.
– Some stores offer price matching, and places like Lowe’s might even give you an extra 10% off if you find the same item cheaper elsewhere. Be sure to check your local store’s policy.
– Look for rebates. Some manufacturers and electric companies offer rebates on specific fridges, especially energy-efficient ones.
– Think about what you really need. Top-end models might look nice but often have extra features you won’t use. Consider skipping things like built-in water and ice dispensers if you rarely use ice.
– Consider the size. A smaller fridge might be less expensive and save on energy costs.
– A store discount card could be worth it if it saves you 5-10%.
Hopefully, these tips will help you find a great deal on your next fridge!
