Scottrade Security Breach Puts Client Data at Risk

Scottrade, a well-known investment company, recently experienced a series of online attacks resulting in a major data breach. During this breach, information from 4.6 million clients was compromised. This mainly affected customers who signed up for a Scottrade brokerage account before February 2014.

Hackers gained access to a large database containing information about Scottrade’s clients. The breached data included customer names, physical addresses, email addresses, and Social Security numbers. Despite this, Scottrade expressed skepticism that the data had been exploited or stolen.

The company confirmed the hacking incident on a Friday, revealing that unidentified cybercriminals had successfully infiltrated its computer network. Surprisingly, Scottrade was unaware of the data theft until the FBI informed them in August.
